BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (WTVG) – The Wood County Health Department partnered with Bowling Green City Schools for an anti-vaping video contest at Crim Elementary.
Health Department staff taught fourth and fifth grade students about the risks of nicotine and vaping through an evidence-based curriculum.
All 108 fourth and fifth graders then broke into groups and created original videos to share what they learned and encourage peers to make informed choices, according to the Health Department.
“This project gave students the tools to speak out and support their peers in making healthy decisions,” said Katlin Medjesky, Wood County Health Department Community Outreach Coordinator. “It’s a great example of youth-driven prevention in action.”
Sixteen videos were submitted, and first, second and third place winners were honored with awards and prizes at Crim’s awards ceremony on Friday.
On Thursday, a celebration event recognized the hard work of all participating students while reinforcing the information they learned in the program.
The contest promoted youth-led advocacy and highlighted the power of student voices in public health, the Health Department said.
